What is CTE?

Preparing our students for the careers of tomorrow has evolved well beyond what we traditionally consider ag and shop classes.

Today's job preparation, called Career and Technical Education or CTE, includes collaboration among classes to mimic real-world experience, and a strong foundation of technology.

Our goal is to train our students for careers available in Clarkson. We aim to attract them back to Clarkson after graduation, fostering a strong local workforce and supporting the long-term vitality of our community.

The new Career and Technical Education addition will be used for more than shop class.

According to the Nebraska Department of Labor, the top 10 high wage, high skill and high demand occupations in the Northeast Region of Nebraska include many with direct connections to the curriculum that will be offered in the CTE Building.

The Career and Technical Education addition features "learning on display" with the beams exposed to show how the building is constructed. It will be added to the southwest side of the school.

Preparing Students with Critical Skills

Core skills remain in demand for our region's workforce and these classes will continue to be an important aspect of our CTE.

  • Welding

  • Metals Fabrication

  • Fine Woodworking

  • Family and Consumer Sciences

  • AgriScience, Agricultural Exploration, Agricultural Business, Plant and Soil Science, Animal Science, and Large Animal Management

  • Drafting and Construction Technology

  • FFA, FBLA and FCCLA

The new facility will be a state-of-the-art learning space for students interested in the ever-changing agricultural world.  When the original facility was built, agriculturists were still using 6-row equipment and spraying with DDT.  Now, there are amazing advancements like self-driving tractors, biotechnology, high-tech equipment, and precision farming. With more space and modern facilities, we can teach students about these exciting new developments and prepare them for successful careers in agriculture.

What other ways can the CTE space be used?

This space will provide our students the opportunity to have cross curriculum learning opportunities with core classroom teachers.

Offering CTE experiences enhances our ability to connect students with real-world opportunities like job shadowing and internships. This ensures that Clarkson Public Schools can continue delivering exceptional education while fostering an environment that supports healthy and successful academic growth.

Work-Based Learning
  • Providing students with a setting where they can enhance their learning, explore, career options, and demonstrate their academic, technical, and career readiness skills in authentic workplace settings.

  • Having ongoing working relationships with multiple employers to take on students we have prepared to intern through our programs of study would be ideal.
